Platte County shows that there are no boundaries when it comes to violating your rights. They are dropping even the appearance of due process and ignoring the 4th amendment to the US Constitution in the name of collecting evidence. At a press conference along with the heads of a number of law enforcement agencies including KCMO’s Chief James Corwin, Platte County Sheriff Richard Anderson announced they would start warrantless blood draws on anyone who refused submit to a breathalyzer test.
According to Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd “you can no longer be allowed to hide the evidence of your crimes”. This evidence happens to be your blood! How exactly is this going to work? How do they get the blood? Do they use a taser to make you submit? Do they inject you with a sedative? Are they going to strap you down? So now you are taking someone who is presumed innocent under the law, without a warrant from a judge, forcibly have blood extracted not in a medical facility, but in the back room of a police station? This sounds like a scene out of Marathon Man. “Is it safe?” I wonder how long it will take before people start having “heart attacks” while in the custody of the Platte County Sheriff’s office? If this isn’t torture, I don’t know what torture is!
With James Corbin in attendance, you should expect that the KCMO Police will implement their own torture centers in the near future. How far will police go under the guise of keeping you safe? In James Corwin’s own blog, he says warrantless blood draws might even help to prove your innocence! Again, you are guilty until proven innocent in the magical world of James Corwin. Sounds like he has been smoking something from the evidence room.
